Who Inspires You; Children’s Story Books

Who Inspires You? is a creative programme that connects young people with inspirational local role models through storytelling, mentoring and school engagement. At the heart of the programme is a series of children’s storybooks created with local young people, celebrating the lives and achievements of inspirational people from our community.

Through engaging storytelling and vibrant illustrations, the books encourage children to think about the people who inspire them while introducing positive local role models whose stories help raise aspirations, build confidence and broaden horizons. By showcasing inspirational people from our own communities, the books help young readers understand that they too can make a positive difference in the world around them.

Who Inspires You Schools Work

Alongside the publications, the programme works directly with schools to connect pupils with inspirational local people through assemblies, workshops, classroom visits and storytelling events. These encounters provide young people with the opportunity to hear authentic stories, ask questions and see positive examples of what can be achieved through determination, creativity and community spirit.

Young people from Unloc, Urbond and 432 Nomads have been involved in the writing and illustration process, supported by writer Jo Austin, illustrators Ruby Smith and Candice Bamber, and publisher Annabelle Innes. The first publication, celebrating local inspirational women, is available to purchase online, with a second publication due for release in Summer 2026.
