The Pamodzi Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Awards event takes place on Friday 10th March 2023 at Portsmouth Guildhall showcasing the creative talent and inspirational women within our community. Director Sarah Roads has long been a champion for the city of Portsmouth and for improving the lives of the people within it. As one of the members of Shaping Portsmouth alongside her position on the board for the Thinking Trust, becoming a sponsor for these awards was the next natural step. As part of this, Sarah was interviewed by the incredible team at Pamodzi about why these awards are important for our community and who inspires her.
As you know Pamodzi is all about bringing people together to celebrate the Inspirational Women of Portsmouth and the positive impact they have on their community so tell us about the activities you are doing to empower women in Portsmouth?
At SLR I want to offer women the chance to create a work/life balance as I have built for myself. I also offer women the chance to work for me alongside their own businesses and encourage them to build and grow. I think it’s so important for women to be able to build their own lives and we really can have it all without being bound to a desk 40 hours a week!·
Tell me, what does supporting Pamodzi mean to you?
Being part of a community within our city and encouraging space to support and celebrate the women in Portsmouth. ·
Many of the nominees of the Pamodzi Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Awards have overcome many a challenge which has inspired them to do what they do. What challenges have you had to overcome and what has it taught you?
Being taken seriously in business in a male-dominated industry and parenting has been a much bigger challenge than I ever thought imaginable, especially when building a business to allow me to be there for my wonderful boys. The challenges have taught me that I am capable of anything if I believe in myself and work hard, I have also learnt how to stay patient and trust the process! All bad moments pass and enjoy the highs! ·
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by all women who are doing it for themselves. I am so proud of Roni and watching the IWP grow this year, she is my biggest inspiration as this is all just incredible to be a part of, and it’s all here because of her.
Who would be your most inspirational dinner guest past or present?
For dinner, I would invite Beyonce, I love her alter ego and she never does interviews, so I would love to have a real conversation with her.
